Brownout Coron
If there's one thing you will remember about Coron (well, aside from the breathtaking lakes and beaches), it's definitely the daily 'brownout'! Every night at around 7-9pm, the power goes out. Though most of the establishments, especially hotels, have portable generators that have 1-3 hours worth of juice.
But if your life revolves around technology and you need your daily dose of likes and hearts, it could be a pain in the butt. It could even be a deal-breaker for some.
When we were there, brownouts took effect during dinner and it was actually kind of nice. It added that intimate vibe. We weren't able to use our phones. Mine was dead anyway and I hate using phones while eating. It was just pure talking and sharing. Definitely a memorable experience for us.
Then as the power came back on, I also came to a thought: Isn't this what it's all about? Isn't it why it's called a getaway -- getting away from work, stress, worry, technology, and everyday things you're used to, even just for a few days? You're in an island for fuck's sake! Watching TV, checking your email, new followers and notifications (well, except Clash of Clans, that shit's important haha kidding) should be the last things on your mind.
Then after I blew the candle, the smoke dissipated in the air -- and so as my worries, even just for that moment.
It's the perfect place to unplug and to ponder on how amazing the world is.
It's the perfect place to disconnect to connect.
P.S. The place we dined in is called Kapemos. They have a really nice rustic ambiance which actually fits Coron. Prices range from 75-150 PHP like what's in the photo above. The taste of their food is as good as anywhere else we've tried. So I guess what sets them apart is the ambiance.
